I'd be surprised if it were a lot of work since it seems to me that all of NI's software is basically build on the same engine.
But otoh, NI is a big company that certainly has enough resources to update their applications if they had a bit of good will. Apple might annoy developer with their changes. My take on it is that both sides are to blame. I understand that there are legitimate reasons for obsolescence and incompatibility, but this was just deliberate crippling. All you had to do was go into the Logic package, open a file in Textedit, and change the second 10 to a 9, or whatever it was. Not because there was anything that stopped it from working properly, but because apple had put a line in a P-List file that said something like min_osx_version='10.10.0'. It's Apples policy of building in obsolescence that is screwing you.Ĭase in point: A few years ago a new version of Logic came out that wasn't compatible below a certain OSX version. In fact the newest update for Logic is incompatible with my version of OSX, which is from september 2015 and my computer is old enough that Apple consider it obsolete and don't bother to make new versions of OSX compatible, even though the machine works absolutely fine. I recently plugged an old Numark soundcard into my laptop and found that it no longer works with my version of OSX. I believe it's relatively common for developers to have to re-write software to comply with new versions of OSX, and I think that one of the recent iterations of OSX was particularly significant in terms of how much work needed to be done. I think that the issue has more to with Apple than NI, to be fair. But, S1 does not find the plugin although it is in the vst folder (same goes for Maschine). But I am not going to spend any more money on products that feature an abysmal backward compatibility.Įdit: YAY! I found a solution, see below. The first thing I learnt then was that Battery 3 was not backwards compatible so I could not import my old kits. I decided to upgrade to Battery 3 (even though I liked the workflow of Battery 2 better). When I upgraded to Windows 7, Battery 2 did not work anymore because there was no 64bit version. Their support team suggests to upgrade to Battery 4. As it turns out, Battery 3 is a "legacy product" now and does not work with MacOs 10.12. Just switched from a Win 10 desktop to a Mac Mini for music production.
